While I was home with a sick child the past two days it seems the theme for this Friday's community meeting was changed. Instead of your favorite storybook character the theme is now wear your favorite sweater or sweatshirt. The community meeting is in the cafeteria and starts at 1:55. Families are welcome and encouraged to attend. Our favorite Kindergartners will also be sharing their learning during the community meeting.
This was a huge surprise when Kindergartners came in on the 100th day. I took their pictures and then aged them to 100 and hung them in the hallway for everyone to see. I think the Kindergartners (along with everyone else) could have stayed in the hallway and looked at these pictures all day long.
Our 100th day of Kindergarten last week was a ton of fun! We had a great day and we centered all of our activities around the number 100. Here are just a few of the things we did. We made gum ball machines with 100 gum balls in each of them by using ten dots of ten different colors. We collected data about the shapes in the number 100 and graphed it. I hid 100 Hershey Kisses throughout the room and all day long Kindergartners were on the lookout for them. Once they found one they had to read the number on the bottom, tell us the number of tens and ones and then find the matching number on the grid.
Last week I read The Book With No Pictures to our class and it became an instant hit. The Kindergartners thought it was hysterical and we came up with the idea to trick Ms. Hoffman into reading it too. We asked her to come read a "very serious" book to us. We told her it was so serious it didn't even have any pictures. Poor Ms. Hoffman had no idea what she was getting herself into. Check out the video below for instant smiles and lots of laughs. P.S. I love the message in the book that you have to say exactly what is written on the page: no more, no less. On Wednesday it was finally warm enough for us to celebrate for collecting the most box tops! (1,979 to be exact) Vanessa Koch came and we spent some time outside sledding down the big hill by the soccer field and we had so much fun. Later, we enjoyed delicious hot chocolate and fun toppings like Andes mints, caramels, white chocolate chips and of course marshmallows. I know these pictures aren't the greatest, but I still wanted to share them with you. It's hard to take pictures while helping with sleds. Thanks to Vanessa for the group shot and to the PTG for setting this up! Okay, I know I said we didn't need the 100 day collections until our 100th day, but if possible I'd love to have them on Monday. We are working on measurement and weight in Math this week and it would be great for them to be able to weigh and compare their collections on Monday and Tuesday. Thanks for being flexible!
On Wednesday, February 11th we will celebrate our 100th day of school! Can you believe it?! The bags that went home for homework don't need to be returned until our 100th day, but we'd love to have them whenever they're ready, so send them on in!
Our entire day's activities will center around the number 100. As part of our celebration we will make a special snack together here at school that day. I've created a sign up with a list of the items we will need for this. You should have received an email to view and sign up, but just in case you didn't, here's the link: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0f48ada922a0ff2-hip We will use some of the items to make the number 100 and some of the items to make a special trail mix of 100 things - 10 groups of 10. The 100th day of Kindergarten is a big deal and I look forward to celebrating it with your amazing children! |
