Our current writing unit is opinion writing. We've been working hard on not only stating our opinion in our writing, but using the word because and giving two or more reasons why we feel the way we do and then tying it all together with an ending. It's a big challenge and the Kindergartners have completely embraced it! Last week we listened to some Disney music and made lists of all the Disney characters we could think of. Then each student chose their favorite and wrote an opinion letter stating why they thought they were the best. Later we will take a trip to the post office to mail our letters! We have a fun filled, busy day planned tomorrow for Spring Fling and new activities keep popping up! Tomorrow morning we will get to enjoy Circus Smirkus. We will also have a BBQ lunch (this is available to all students at no cost) consisting of hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, pasta salad and ice cream. In the afternoon we will have our community meeting and the theme is spirit day - our memory tshirts are in and I will have them for the students to change into tomorrow. We will wear them as a class for our last Spirit Day, but I will then be collecting them back at the end of the day because we have a special project to do with them for our end of the year celebration (more info on this celebration to come, but mark your calendars for June 12th because we would love to have you join us!)
Don't forget! Our Spring Music Concert is tomorrow (Wednesday) evening at 6:00 pm. Students should arrive to our classroom at 5:45. We will all gather there and then you and your family can go find some prime seating for what is sure to be a fabulous show. The Kindergartners and I will go to the gym together and sit together as a class for the show. Please remember to have your child dress appropriately (nothing super fancy is required, but no jeans please). If anything changes or if I receive any further information I will be sure to let you know. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you! The Kindergartners and I are so excited about our new listening center! Thanks to the PTG and our Spring Bookfair we were able to get a brand new wireless listening center for our classroom. This is such a huge improvement from taping cords to the table in just the right position so the Kindergartners could listen to a book on tape. Thanks to this new listening center the kiddos can be anywhere in the room and the wireless headphones will work. Now we are no longer limited to books on cassette tape either-we can use CD's too! Yay!
Our Mother's Day Tea was so much fun! The Kindergartners were so excited to share this special time with their Moms. The cookbook and necklaces were a big hit, but nothing was better than watching them sing You are My Sunshine to these very special Moms. Happy Mother's Day!
We've been very busy Geologists in Kindergarten. We've collected rocks for our very own rock museum, studied and observed them, recorded our findings and sorted them in as many different ways as we could think of. We've learned that the Earth is made up of rocks and that there are many different kinds of rocks that we use for many different things. Don't be surprised if your Kindergartner starts picking up rocks everywhere you go! |
