Manipulatives, number bonds and number lines - oh my! We've started to learn about addition in Kindergarten. Over the next few weeks we will study the properties of addition and what it means to compose and decompose numbers up to 10.

Our previous science unit was all about forces of motion - pushes and pulls! We studied and explored many different materials and ideas to discover how pushes and pulls make things move. Through these discoveries we also learned about the force of gravity. We used balls and ramps (a simple machine), gears, and probably their most favorite of all - roller coasters. After learning about the different pushes and pulls necessary to make a roller coaster move the Kindergartners created their own roller coasters out of strips of paper. Did you know a roller coaster has no engine or brakes?! It relies on pushes and pulls and gravity to make it run. For your children's viewing pleasure (and my embarrassment) below you will find some videos of me on a couple roller coasters at Disney World. I just wanted to apologize for getting behind in my blog posting. I had high hopes of being able to blog before I left for vacation, but as I was still packing my suitcase into the early hours of the morning, well, it just didn't happen. Anyway, my apologies. Lots of blog posts will be coming your way! We seem to have accumulated some black snowpants that no one is claiming. If any of these pictures below belong to your child please let me know and I will send them home. Also, please label all of your children's outside gear. You'd be amazed at how many children have the same items. At our last Elementary School Community Meeting our class performed our newest months of the year song for the entire elementary school and some parents, grandparents, and community members who joined us as well. I was so impressed with how well they did!
We had a really wonderful time at Bentley's Bakery and The Creamery Restaurant before we went on vacation. Each group got to make and eat their own pizza! This tied in perfectly with our math unit - learning about measurement. The Kindergartners did an amazing job and our chaperones and hostesses were excellent. Thank you so much to everyone who made this fun activity possible.
