What would Christmas in Kindergarten be without reindeer?! We've been learning about nonfiction reading and over the past couple weeks we took what we know about how to read nonfiction and applied it to the subject of reindeer. We started with what we already know about reindeer and what we still wondered or wanted to know. Then we read a nonfiction book about reindeer to learn more. As we read we looked at nonfiction text features such as: Table of Contents, bold words, glossary, real photographs, labels, etc. Next, we created a chart of what we learned-we learned ALOT! After we discussed our learning we wrote about what we learned. Finally, we read a fiction book about reindeer and compared the two texts. Hi Everyone!
I sent out an email a few minutes ago, but wanted to post it here just in case there is anyone not on the email list. Tomorrow, Tuesday, at 6:00pm is our Winter Concert! All students in our elementary school will be performing and it's sure to be quite the show. Please bring your children to our classroom at 5:45. I will meet you there and from there the students and I will walk to the gym as a class and sit together in our assigned spot throughout the concert. When the concert is over we will return to our classroom and you can meet your children there. If you have any questions please send me an email. I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow night! Every day we use the computers in our classroom to read books and play phonics and math games, but we've run into a problem: we don't have enough headphones! Kindergarteners can't help themselves, they play with and twist the cords and they break. We have four computers and one iPad and we're down to just two sets of working headphones. I've been bringing in ones I had at home, but now I'm out too. So....if you have any spare sets of headphones at home that you wouldn't mind donating to our classroom we would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!
These Kindergarten Authors are so excited about writing-it makes my heart smile! We've been working hard to stretch out our words, use spaces, punctuation, lowercase letters, labels and speech bubbles. We also learned how to write a story with a beginning, middle and end! With all of this hard work going on we thought it was time to celebrate! On Friday we celebrated by sharing our writing with friends in Mrs. Remick's class. First we practiced sharing with partners in our class and then we took a trip next door. These authors were so excited to share their writing and they did an amazing job. Congratulations Kindergarten authors!!! Over the next few weeks we will be exploring and doing some learning with gingerbread. "Gingy" has come to our classroom to join in the fun! Each night a child from our class will get to take Gingy home for the evening. The assignment is to have fun and do some things with him and then to write down your adventures on the paper provided. Please let your child do the writing! These Kindergarteners are becoming great authors and they are doing an amazing job of stretching out their words and writing down the sounds they hear. Of course help them as needed, but encourage them to do their own writing. Everyone will get a chance to bring Gingy home and to share their adventures with the class. Please don't forget to send Gingy back to school the next day! |
