shoes and reading?
During Readers Workshop we've been talking about how reading is a lot like running. Runners have to pick the right shoes to run in-those really cute red heels won't work for a run! Just like runners have to pick the right shoes, readers have to pick the right books. Even though my sneakers are the perfect fit for me, they wouldn't work for any of the students-they're too big! Just because a book is a good fit for one student doesn't mean it's a good fit for another. Everyone learns at a different pace and that's just fine. Ask your child some of the other ways readers are like runners! |
Read to self
Every day during Readers Workshop students engage in "Read to Self" time. This is a time for students to independently practice their reading skills. This week students worked on deciding which books in their reading folders were just right and which one was too hard. There are five things to consider when deciding if a book is a "just right fit". We use the posters below to help us decide.
